Dare to Care

This June, stand strong for MG warriors everywhere!

Sign up to be a DARE to CARE fundraiser during Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month. DARE your friends and family to CARE about myasthenia gravis. Challenge them to fight for a world without MG!

Joining is easy!

  • Create a fundraising page.
  • Share it with your family and friends – let them know why the MGFA matters to you.
  • Feeling ambitious? Set up a creative fundraiser in your local community (think restaurant give-back night, silent auction, bake sale, lemonade stand – the sky’s the limit!).

Each dollar raised supports the MGFA’s ongoing mission of creating connections, enhancing lives, improving care, and finding better treatments and — one day soon — a cure for MG.

DARE to CARE is a great way to fundraise for the MGFA’s mission if you don’t have an MG Walk in your area. Show us what your city or community can do!

Check out some of these creative ways that members of the MG Community have raised awareness and funds in our fight for a cure during MG Awareness Month.

PAINT N’ SIP: More than 100 members of the community joined several artists, including MG patient Erin Bernau, for a fun, online, Paint n’ Sip event.

DRINK OF THE WEEK: Customers at Drea Carbone’s local watering hole could sample the “Tipsy Zebra,” a special cocktail for sale during the month of June. Proceeds supported the MGFA, and Drea included information about MG on tables throughout the venue.

DINE TO DONATE: MGFA St. Petersburg Support Group leaders set up a fundraising night at their local Texas Roadhouse restaurant. The restaurant donated a portion of sales from guests dining out for MGFA. Signage throughout the restaurant’s entrance educated guests about the cause.

PAY-AS-YOU-WISH YOGA: A volunteer who also happens to be a yoga instructor donated her time to lead a pay-as-you-wish class. All registration fees supported the MGFA. She encouraged her friends and family to come out for this special class.

MAKERS: Many volunteers make MG awareness apparel or merchandise, donating sale proceeds during the month of June to the MGFA. Everything from journals to birdhouses, car decals to pins — if you can make it, you can raise awareness and support the MGFA at the same time!

Community Fundraiser Ideas

Give-Back Nights

  • Local chain restaurants will donate a portion of sales from “MGFA Night.”
  • Restaurants that host fundraisers include: Portillos, Chipotle, Crumbl, Shake Shack, Rubio’s Coastal Grill, Texas Road House, Panera, Panda Express, Chick-fil-A, Applebee’s, Krispy Kreme, IHOP.
  • Contacts for each restaurant can be found on their websites – simply do a search for “IHOP community fundraiser” to find out more about IHOP’s give-back program.

Collaborate with Work

  • Does your workplace having a matching corporate gift program? Ask your human resources department! Your donations could be doubled.
  • Ask your boss or company leader to wear a silly hat, sit in a dunk tank, or take part in another kind of stunt if the company raises a certain amount of money toward your fundraiser.
  • Want to host your own MG walk, bike ride, or run for awareness? Invite your colleagues to participate with you! Use your DARE to CARE fundraising page to request donations in support of your activity.
  • If you own your own business, consider donating a portion of your weekly or monthly sales to the MGFA. Encourage contributions from customers. Or, create a matching gift to further incentivize giving.

Sell, Sell, Sell

  • Garage sales for a good cause are a great way to get rid of clutter and support the MGFA!
  • Bake sales, lemonade stands, farm stands – generous customers often donate more than your asking price when you’re raising money for a great cause.
  • What do you make? Consider donating a portion of your product sales during the month of June.

Fun in your Community

  • Host a fundraiser like a pay-as-you-wish yoga or gardening class, a paint ‘n sip event, or a picnic in the park.
  • Partner with a minor league baseball team or another local sports team for a give-back night, in which a portion of ticket sales benefit the MGFA.
